Bathorooms need paricularly carefuly measuring and planning before the main components are ordered and work begins, because fitted sanitaryware is a permanent fixture that can be expensive to alter once it has been installed.

Existing pipework may also dictate the new design and layout.

Do:

• Remember to allow sufficient clearance around the sanitaryware.

Don't:

• Cram large-scale pieces into a small bathroom if you can't use them in comfort.
